The Quiet Space of Change
There is a strange part of doing deeper inner awareness work that we do not always talk about. When we begin to step away from the outer disturbances, old patterns, emotional reactions, relationships, expectations, and the constant stimulation that once occupied so much of our attention, something unexpected can happen. Things become quieter. And sometimes, that quiet does not initially feel peaceful. It can feel empty. Even slightly depressive. This can be confusing, especially when we have worked hard to create more awareness and inner stability. We might wonder: Why don't I feel better? What am I supposed to do now? There is nothing left to hold on to. But there is an important transition taking place underneath that feeling. We are not only letting go of what disturbed us. We are also letting go of familiar ways of defining ourselves.
